Dying Art - Marathi Poems.

Marathi is my mother tongue, the language of my state Maharashtra. With the increasing globalisation and more cosmopolitan cities learning regional languages in depth is not considered glorious. There is decrease in new original literature of Marathi. It is one of the oldest of India. It is in top 15 language among widely spoken languages worldwide and 3rd in India. There were many great poets and writers who flourished Marathi literature. Mr Vishnu Vaman Shirwadkar fondly known as his pen name “Kusumagraj” was one of the noted writer-poet of Marathi who penned lots of writing.

27th February is celebrated as “Marathi Bhasha Gaurav Din” means "Pride day of Marathi" on the occasion of birth anniversary of Legendary Marathi writer Kavi (poet) Kusumagraj, with curiosity, I searched some of his writings and I got the answer for my nullified status of mind. I came across a great inspirational poem of Kusumagraj ji titled “Kana”(Backbone in English). This poem is basically having two angles. One is relation between a student and his old teacher and another aspect is the struggle of a lower-middle class person. This reminds me my math mentor Yaashaa G. sir. The inspiration given by a Guru (mentor) and a simple expectation of requiring only a mental and moral support from his teacher; is the theme of this poem and I relate it most because whenever I feel low, my mentor Yaashaa sir always help to keep me high. This poem has very deep and profound meaning so I thought to translate it in english to make the poem available to large audience.
