We were tasked with designing a truss to withstand a force applied across the bottom of the truss in our testing rig. We were limited to a maximum width of one wooden skewer and we needed to have a length between ten and twelve inches. We chose to use the maximum length of twelve inches and used a X design in order to dissipate force towards the corners of the Truss. During our test, our Truss was successful in holding above thirty pounds of force.
We were tasked with designing a machine that would use hydraulic power to propel a marble twelve inches across and four inches up to a cup. We were provided syringes as our method of hydraulic power. While applying work to one syringe, an equal but opposite force is applied evenly to all other syringes in the system. We attempted to use a complicated staircase utilizing syringes in order to propel the marble, however our attempts were largely unsuccessful.
