Natural Resources and Environmental Economics Research (NEER) Lab
Natural Resources and Environmental Economics Research (NEER) Lab
The Natural Resources and Environmental Economics Research (NEER) Lab is a collective of curious researchers and practitioners committed to understanding and addressing complex natural resource management and environmental challenges through an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary lens.
Our work examines pressing environmental problems at the intersection of economics, public policy, governance, and human behavior. We combine rigorous empirical quantitative analysis and field insights with a solution-oriented mindset, drawing on environmental economics, behavioral economics to understand agents, incentives and actions pertinent to managing environmental goods.
At NEER Lab, we believe that effective environmental solutions must be grounded in local realities while remaining economically viable, socially acceptable, and institutionally feasible. We work closely with policymakers, practitioners, communities, and other stakeholders to develop evidence-based insights that can inform better policy design and implementation.
Our guiding principle is simple: to critically understand environmental and natural resource challenges and co-create practical, scalable, and locally adaptable solutions for resource-constrained economies, particularly for India and the Global South.
NEERal (नीरल) in Hindi means पवित्रता (purity), स्पष्टता (clarity), या पानी जैसा निर्मल (serene and clear), and is often used for clarity of thoughts. Inspired by the word NEER (नीर water), a NEERal pursues research with clarity, integrity, curiosity, and a commitment to creating locally grounded solutions for a sustainable future.
