From Oaks to Emmaus Junction, the Perkiomen Railroad served the communities along its route for 100 years. The Railroad, at its height, was 38.5 miles long and contained 28 stops. A new and popular route for summer excursions into the southeastern Pennsylvania countryside, Philadelphians around the turn of the twentieth century left the busy city on the Railroad for swimming, boating, fishing, and more. Along with passenger cars, the Railroad also carried freight like milk and food goods, ice, cigars, and brooms from factories and farms, growing regional commerce and thus building towns around its stations.

The Perkiomen Railroad Historical Society (PRHS) was established in 2014 to preserve the history of the Perkiomen Railroad. Originally a Facebook group used to share and discuss the Railroad’s history, the PRHS is officially now a 501(c)3 non-profit.
Offline, they offer presentations, guided walks of the Perkiomen Trail and the former Railroad, raise awareness at various community events, and collect artifacts and ephemera of the Railroad’s history.
