Job Purpose

Key Responsibilities

As a Mechanic B, you will perform a wide range of mechanical, plumbing, and electrical support work, including:

• Laying out, installing, repairing, and maintaining piping, tubing, hangers, and supports

• Performing basic plumbing installations and pipeline repairs

• Fabricating and installing metal assemblies, fittings, and low-pressure vessels

• Using gas and electric welding equipment for cutting, heating, soldering, tack welding, and basic welding tasks

• Inspecting, installing, adjusting, and repairing electrical equipment such as motors, transformers, wiring, conduit, and controls

• Performing basic motor repairs and working on or near energized equipment (up to 440 volts)

• Supporting boiler maintenance, including tube rolling, baffle installation, and oil-burning equipment repair

• Performing general masonry work (concrete, brick, plastering)

• Using rigging equipment for light loads and understanding equipment limits

• Assisting higher-grade mechanics as needed

• Participating in fuel oil delivery/unloading operations when required
  
  

Note: This role may require working special schedules to meet generation station maintenance needs.

🎓 Qualifications

Education & Skills

• Ability to perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages

• Comfortable working at heights

• Knowledge of applicable electrical and mechanical codes

• Familiarity with General Rules for Electric Equipment and Lines

Experience

• 3+ years of experience in this or related mechanical work

Licenses & Testing

• Valid New York State Driver’s License

• Must pass:

  • Mechanic Skill Assessment Test (at National Grid Academy – Hub Drive)

  • Field Assessment Test

  • Federally mandated drug testing (pre-employment, random, post-incident, and reasonable cause)
