Retrace Poutini, Waitaiki and Tamāhua's steps.
Create your own map of their journey, include place names and stones found in this purakau.
Create a scratch animation to retell Poutini's journey across Aotearoa
Use a Stopmotion style program to create a video of Wataiki's journey
Using the notes you have made and the table included to create a visual tour of Aotearoa tracing out the journey of Poutini, Waitaiki and Tamāhua (you could include his use of the tekateka/pointer). If you haven't used Google Earth before please watch the tutorial on how to add place names, create layers, show a path/journey and add labels.
Research uses Māori had for the various types of rock found in the pūrākau
Use the design description to explain the properties of the stone used
Create a 2D image of how the stone is formed and turn it into a poster with title and labels.
Using the information from the pūrākau, Formation of Pounamu, Geological origins of Pounamu and Geology- rocks and minerals do some more research about a rock type that intrigues you.
Create a 3D project to show what you have learnt about the rock types found throughout Aotearoa. This could be: how the rock type you have chosen is formed, the minerals the rock is made of, what it looks like unrefined (raw) and what type of tools or taonga were made.
Using the same links research a rock type that interests you. Find out what tools or taonga were made from it. You can use pen & paper, Google docs, Word, sketchpad (online version) or another medium you like to create a 2D poster that has labels to explain each aspect. An example has been provided.
Toi whakairo or simply whakairo (carving) is a Māori traditional art of carving in wood, stone or bone. Wood was formed into houses, fencepoles, containers, taiaha and tool handles. Stone, preferably the very hard pounamu (greenstone), was the main material for tools of many kinds.
Waitaiki was turned into pounamu by Poutini:
Carve an original piece of digital pounamu to tell of her life and her beauty
Design a digital tekateka using Tinkercad to help guide Tamāhua
Create a taniwha worthy of Poutini's abilities using Sculpt GL
Retell the story of Pounamu- how could the ending change if Waitaiki had super powers
Create a play using Scratch where you can design your own characters and backgrounds, do voice overs and record music.
Use CloudStopmotion to tell your version of the legend. A tutorial can be found here
