Raranga Matihikio have designed this unit to bring pūrākau into your homes and classrooms. This site has been developed from the tale of Poutini: Guardian Taniwha of Pounamu.
The goal is for tamariki to find the knowledge held within the pūrākau then develop a project using a range of digital tools. Examples and tutorials have been developed to guide learners and whānau.
This unit is designed to be applied in a cross-curricular manner, for years 7 -10, and has links to:

It is also possible for the resources to be modified by teachers to incorporate Drama, Music and Technology/Hard Materials curriculum areas.
This resource can be used many ways, here are a few suggestions:
As a home learning activity for parents/whānau to use with their children
As an independent activity for students in your class for virtual learning
Broken into sections and completed in class
Completed all at once or broken up, it doesn't matter!

It is recommend you set the audio resource: Once Upon a Taima: Poutini as a task to be completed prior to the lesson.
Notes can be made by the student to refer to for the digital tasks.
Watching the video Pounamu: a story of New Zealand jade as a refresher will also reinforce information and provide for visual learners.
