General Information
This is a temporary page for information about the project dubbed "Plot Twists".
If you are directed to a different page in the future, please don't be alarmed. As long as you've clicked the link from our Linktree, you're on the correct page!
One of the biggest hurdles Self Published Authors seem to face is that they are doing everything themselves. They don't have a team behind them to help them succeed, instead utilizing private services which don't care too much if the book is a success; they just care if they get paid.
This creates a huge gap in what a Self Published Author can accomplish versus an Author with a Publisher.
Now, that's not to say every Self Published Author runs into issues. There are plenty out there that will tell you about their successes and confirm that anything is possible. Which it is!
But with how supportive the Self Published Community can be towards each other, why not take it a step further?
Project Plot Twists is about the creation of a site/app that is for Self Published Books and Authors, typically exluding those who have been accepted by Publishers.
Basically it would be a way for Self Published Authors to help other Self Published Authors:
- Authors would have their own pages which they are in control of.
- Each book would have its own page and, also, be in control of the author, with options for those who aren't tech savvy enough to manage (future thought, cart before the horse).
- Each page directs to the authors desired purchase destinations.
The service would also have verifications in place such as Author verification and book verification to prevent spam.
Readers would have their own accounts and be able to do all the basics that similar sites offer:
- Review books. With a goal of being able to validate if the person has actually read the book before reviewing, but requires development.
- Indicate read, interested in, and not interested in.
- Share books.
Another idea in the brain is that when a book is approved/added to the system, it can be shared on Social Media to the dedicated page for additional eyes on it.
A big idea being of course that it's all free. Instead of charging people or using annoying ads around the site, it'd generate revenue from Affiliate links to the different purchase sites, or if people are willing to support/donate.
The starting idea would be that each Author shares a link to their books or page.
When a Reader is on the site, they'll then be able to interact and find other books they might be interested in.
Depending on variables in the future, there might be the ability to run ads for the site to help attract traffic organically.
Books accepted onto the site would also be posted to a dedicated Social Media account (Facebook and Twitter for now).
This can help generate discussion and organic traffic to the site with no additional action needed.
So here's the thing.
It's going to be a lot of hard work, especially at the start. Benefit from it will probably take a little bit.
But nothing ever comes easy, right?
Worse case senario, it's a little bit of free publicity for your work after about 10 minutes of effort.
And then beyond that, it's really just sharing the links with other, like you're probably doing right now to Goodreads or similar sites.
This is just a more exclusive collection where your book won't get overlooked in favor of books with huge publishers behind them.
Honestly, the big thing about this is that it's Authors helping Authors.
As the thought person behind this idea, my biggest benefit is that once I publish my own book (hopefully this year!!), I'll be able to add to the system as well.
My logic for any funds generated by this system is that first it'll cover operating costs, which I'm thinking will be about $70/mo, and then as mentioned above, having a pool available to run ads to get traffic.
But no one on the Admin side is going to become a millionare off this.
Be able to quit the 9-5 and do this fulltime? Maybe.
But no one is going to be pulling any 6-figure incomes.
