*The MSc/PhD program in Canada is equivalent to a standard 5-year PhD program in the United States. Direct appointments to the PhD program are not generally considered. The MSc portion is 1 or 2 years, is research focused, fully financially supported by research (RA) and teaching (TA) stipends, and tuition fees are covered by the department or research supervisor. Direct transfer to the PhD program from the MSc program does not require a Master's thesis or a separate application. Assuming satisfactory progress with courses and research, MSc students typically transfer to the PhD program (no separate application required, only a form signed by advisor) after one year.
Our group typically has one or two open positions for undergraduate researchers in their 3rd or 4th years. Interested students should contact Professor Potter by email (please read the following first)
Minimum requirements for research: PHYS402 (Quantum mechanics 2) with an A or better grade and a strong background in linear-algebra and familiarity with numerical computing (Python or similar).
These positions are reserved for currently-enrolled UBC undergraduate students only, we are unable to host interns or visiting students from other universities at this time.
