Steven Swarbrick is an Assistant Professor of English at Baruch College, City University

of New York. He received his Ph.D. in English from Brown University. Before arriving at

Baruch, he was a postdoctoral fellow at Tulane University. His research interests include

16 th and 17 th -century English literature, the environmental humanities, queer, feminist,

and critical race theory, psychoanalysis, and sexuality and film studies. He is the author

of The Environmental Unconscious: Ecological Poetics from Spenser to Milton

(Minnesota, 2023) and coauthor, with Jean-Thomas Tremblay, of Negative Life: The

Cinema of Extinction (Northwestern, “Superimpositions” series, 2024). He has published

widely in the journals Exemplaria, differences, Alienocene, Critical Inquiry, Cultural

Critique, Discourse, Postmodern Culture, Spenser Studies, and postmedieval and is

coeditor of a special issue of Criticism on “Renaissance posthumanism.”
