The RSA has announced the recipients of its 2025 Renaissance Studies Article Prize on the theme of ‘Renaissance Ecologies,’ and we couldn’t be happier that an article published in postmedieval won first prize!

In their brilliant article, ‘Towards a history of the hammock: An Indigenous technology in the Atlantic world,’ Marcy Norton and John Kuhn explore the hammock’s materiality, its social role within Indigenous communities, and its place in intercultural exchanges with colonial settlers.

Congratulations to Marcy and John, to Jennifer Jahner and Jessica Rosenberg, who guest edited ‘Technique: Alternate histories of expertise and experiment’—the special issue of postmedieval in which the article appeared— and to all of this year’s winners!
