In the fall of 2002 the PHS Athletic Boosters President, Dave Hoort, formed a committee of six other individuals. They were charged with the responsibility of developing an Athletic Hall of Fame. Much time was spent on the criteria for nomination and election processes, how to pay for the expenses incurred, what kind of award would be presented, where the “Hall” would be located, etc., etc. In other words, the committee met many times working out the details. Over the course of the next few years, these details changed several times, and will continue to be refined as the committee reviews what has taken place each year. The one thing that hasn't changed is the belief that establishing a PHS Athletic Hall of Fame is a way to honor our past and challenge our future. We have a history of success and excellence in Raider athletics that many of this present generation are not aware of. The Hall of Fame is a way to remind our present and future athletes what can be accomplished right here at Portland High School. The committee also felt that those individuals and teams who contributed to the success and provided examples of excellence in athletics needed to be honored and thanked.
