Portland High School Athletic Hall of Fame
Purpose: The Portland High School Athletic Hall of Fame (established in 2003) has been created by the Portland Athletic Association to provide a medium to honor our past and to challenge our future. It is a way recognize former Portland High School athletes and individuals who have distinguished themselves and served the high school athletic department and/or have brought positive recognition to Portland High School as well as the Portland community.
PHS Hall of Fame honorees are individuals or teams who have distinguished themselves in the field of athletics by virtue of their performance on athletic teams representing Portland High School or by being a person who has served the Portland High School Athletic Department with distinction.
Hall of Fame Committee:
The committee will be made up of 7-9 members of the Portland School District community and the Portland High School Athletic Director. The Portland Athletic Association president will appoint the chairperson and the committee will select individuals to fill any openings on the committee.
Nomination Process:
Nominations can be submitted to the Portland Athletic Association at any time.
Nominations can be mailed to PAA at Portland High School or emailed to paa48875@gmail.com. A nomination form is on the PAA website: portlandathleticassociation.org or can be obtained from the athletic office in the high school. Nominations should include documented support for the nomination. Documentation should, at a minimum, include category of nomination, correct dates, actual awards received, and contact information. All nominations are kept on file for future consideration.
Criteria for Consideration:
Candidates for election to the PHS Athletic Hall of Fame are considered in the following categories:
These are guidelines and can be changed or waived by the committee if warranted.
Athlete: An athlete who has earned special honors and/or has brought positive recognition to Portland High School and the Portland community is eligible for consideration ten (10) years after graduation or posthumously.
Coach: A coach who has served Portland High School with distinction and/or made a direct significant impact on the athletes of Portland High School; the athletic department and the community is eligible for consideration one (1) year after retirement; or after 25 years as a coach for Portland High School; or five (5) years after separation from Portland High School; or posthumously.
Honorary: Any individual (administrator, staff member, volunteer, benefactor, community member, etc.) who has made a direct, significant, and positive impact on Portland High School athletics is eligible for consideration. Such candidates would be immediately eligible.
Team: Any Portland High School athletic team that has distinguished itself in league competition, tournaments, and state tournaments is eligible for consideration ten (10) years after the end of that school year.
