Our project, RESOAP, focuses on transforming waste soap scraps into new, high-quality bars of soap. By collecting leftover soap from hotels, restaurants, and households, we reduce waste while promoting sustainability. Our process involves cleaning, sanitizing, and reprocessing the soap, ensuring it meets safety standards. We aim to create eco-friendly products that appeal to environmentally conscious consumers.
Additionally, our initiative empowers students to gain valuable skills in entrepreneurship, teamwork, and social responsibility, fostering a culture of innovation within our community. Through workshops and outreach, we raise awareness about recycling and its positive impact on the environment.
My community is facing significant challenges due to climate change, including environmental degradation and waste accumulation. To help address this, I’m planning a soap recycling initiative to reduce waste and promote sustainability. By repurposing used soap, we can contribute to cleaner environments while raising awareness about climate action.
Our Future Plan
Looking ahead, we plan to expand RESOAP’s reach by partnering with more hotels, schools, restaurants, and households to collect larger quantities of soap waste. We aim to establish new recycling units and dedicated facilities to streamline production and increase efficiency. Additionally, we will educate and engage more communities, especially youth, on the importance of sustainability, hygiene, and environmental responsibility through workshops and campaigns. We also envision collaborating with other organizations and government bodies to scale the project, foster a circular economy, and promote sustainable practices across Tanzania and beyond, creating a lasting social and environmental impact.
Goals for RESOAP
Reduce Waste: To significantly minimize soap waste in hotels, restaurants, and households by repurposing leftover soap into new, high-quality bars through RESOAP, contributing to a cleaner environment.
Promote Hygiene: To improve access to affordable soap in underserved communities, promoting better hygiene and health practices, especially in areas with limited resources.
Increase Awareness: To raise awareness about the importance of sustainability and waste management, encouraging others to adopt eco-friendly practices in their daily lives.
Create Job Opportunities: To create employment and skills development opportunities for local youth by involving them in RESOAP and teaching them valuable trade skills.
Expand Reach: To grow RESOAP by partnering with more businesses and organizations, increasing the scale and impact of the initiative to benefit more communities and reduce waste on a larger scale.
Through BOOKS FOR CHANGE, I aim to empower young people in my community by providing essential learning materials and academic support. So far, the initiative has impacted 650 students, supplying them with books, stationery, and other scholastic resources they might not otherwise have access to. Beyond providing materials, we offer mentorship and tutoring, ensuring students receive the guidance needed to fully understand and apply their learning.
We also encourage and guide students to explore global opportunities, such as the Young African Scholars (YYAS) Program, the Yale Young Global Scholars (YYGS) Program, Rise for the World, and many others, helping them broaden their horizons and develop leadership skills. By focusing on education, we strive to create a supportive environment that fosters a love for learning, builds confidence, and promotes academic achievement. Through this work, BOOKS FOR CHANGE inspires young minds to take ownership of their education and pursue their goals with the tools and support they need to succeed.
