Final Reflection – Subtractive Sculpture Project
For my subtractive sculpture project, I explored the process of carving and shaping material to bring a creative idea to life. I started with a solid block and gradually removed material to create my final form. My sculpture began with a basic shape, and through careful planning and carving, I refined it into a more detailed and intentional piece.
The painted version of my sculpture allowed me to add personality and color to the form. I chose bright, contrasting colors like blue, green, and yellow to highlight different areas and add visual interest. This final stage helped bring the sculpture to life and gave it a more expressive quality.
Throughout the project, I learned the importance of patience, planning, and observation. Subtractive sculpture requires thinking ahead because once material is removed, it cannot be replaced. This taught me to make deliberate decisions and pay close attention to proportions and balance. I’m proud of how my project turned out and how I was able to turn a rough material into something unique through my own creativity and effort.
