Michael Hagen Treadway is an Instructional Designer and Education Professional and currently works as a Curriculum Designer for Online Learning In the Center for Innovative Teaching and Technology at Hillsborough Community College. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from The University of Tampa in 2018 with a Bachelor of Arts in English and in 2020 with a Master of Science in Instructional Design and Technology. His work is motivated by a passion for education and the transformational impact it can have on everyday life. It is this empowering phenomenon that drives his goal to improve the practicality, quality, and accessibility of education.
Through 2021 & 2022, he designed and developed online college classes In English Composition, College Algebra, Introduction to the Humanities, Theatre, and Developmental Writing. During that time he collaboratively created, reviewed, or developed course materials/content these courses and more. As a Curriculum Designer, he has created eLearning activities, self-paced course content, instructional videos, class assignments, and provides consultation on online learning best practices, converting in-person material to online content, and works directly with SME's to convert expertise into learning materials.
In the Winter of 2020, he designed and developed an online course to educate high school students and parents on the college admissions process. The course helps students and parents understand what to do and how to do it as they begin to think about and prepare to enter college.
During the Spring of 2020, Mr. Treadway worked as a member of the RISE grant as an Instructional Designer under Dr. Suzanne Ensmann. The role in this project was to design an online collaborative learning platform to host an ESL course for underserved orphaned students in Haiti.
In 2019 he collaborated with The College of Natural and Health Sciences at The University of Tampa to redesign the Applied Kinesiology course with Dr. Alyssa Stewart. The work focused around creating a more hands-on, experiential, and learner-centric course design to improve the practicality and potential application of the material. This was achieved by more active teacher & student demonstrations of movement, projects designed to build field-specific skills, and refocusing course material increase knowledge translatability.
In 2018 he conducted a research study, "Causes Underlying Low Voter-Turnout Amongst U.S Youth" where he worked as the principle investigator for a graduate research team. The study indicates an instructional need by demonstrating a correlation between low young voter turnout and a lack of civic related educational measures.
Mr. Treadway previously worked with a team to design a set of training modules for the educational non-profit iCivics, to help train high school teachers how to instruct using primary sources. The modules, created in the learning management system Canvas, are in use by educators and students nationwide.
Hagen currently resides in South Tampa and has been practicing Instructional Design since 2018.
