My name is Lily Harp. I am a junior at the University of Cincinnati majoring in Speech-Language Pathology. I participate in the NSSLHA club and have had professional experience in schools. I shadowed a professional intervention specialist for children with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Dyslexia, and Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) at an elementary school; I shadowed a professional speech pathologist working with children from grades two to six. I enjoy writing short stories and reading fictional books in my free time.
In my future classroom, my goals for integrating educational technology include educating my students on how to use certain technologies so they can improve their speech production and speaking. I hope to use those technologies in the future to improve the communication of my students. Learning about interactive technology that is both easy to use and easily accessible for a diverse group of students will help my students and I to have a more immersive, enriching learning experience. I hope to use technology that pairs well with the real world classroom, the digital classroom, and beyond.
As a future professional, it will be important that I stay up to date and integrate technology successfully in my learning environment. This can be accomplished by consulting colleagues and superiors about what technology they use, and possibly begin using it if it amplifies the four C's related to student abilities: consume content, create content, collaborate, and communicate. I will also be required to attend professional development events and workshops; this is the main way I plan to stay up to date regarding new technology. Through these events and workshops, I hope to gain a greater understanding of the technological and pedagogical knowledge behind new technology being used. This way, I can effectively communicate methods of using the new technology to my students, which can elevate both their learning experience and my teaching experience.
