Membean is a website that allows students to grow their vocabulary. The intelligent algorithm understands the vocabulary proficiency and level each student is at and educates them accordingly, allowing for a personalized learning experience. There are many reasons an educator and other professionals would appreciate this site.
The educator has the ability to manipulate the quantity of words within each quiz and and the frequency of each quiz.
The quizzes are auto-graded, which saves time for educators.
The site allows for individualized preferences for those students that need accommodations.
To better monitor, support, and challenge students, Membean provides the educator with data on each students progress.
Why?
This site is one of my favorite tech tools because the site's purpose is meant to support the core of ISTE Standards for Students, which is student-focused teaching, not technology tools. The algorithm allows for this personalized learning experience. I also believe Membean is a piece of technology that, when implemented, would communicate the content at hand and support the pedagogy, or method of teaching. A future speech therapist could use this in their classroom to communicate the content (speech problems and correcting them through repetition) and support the method of teaching (student focused using enriching technology).
Edpuzzle is a website that empowers students to take an active role in their learning with interactive video lessons that spark creativity and curiosity. Educators are able to see engagement and measure a student's success. Edpuzzle prioritizes visuals, self-paced learning, flexibility, and promotes deeper understanding of content with mini-lessons. There are many reasons an educator and other professionals would appreciate this site.
Educators can get instant data that helps them formulate lessons and grade effortlessly.
Interactive formative and summative assessments increase engagement and critical thinking.
Edpuzzle allows educators to make videos for lessons tailored to meet student's needs.
Edpuzzle has the largest teacher-created video lesson library spanning many subjects and grade levels.
Why?
This site is one of my favorite tech tools because the site is learning and student centered. The visuals, instant feedback, self-paced learning, flexibility, and more benefit learners immensely because it all supports the 1.1 Empowered Learner ISTE Student Standard section. Through Edpuzzle, learning goals can be created and reached, learning environments and methods can be customized, feedback is available to improve practice, and technology fundamentals can be learned through learning methods and tools with Edpuzzle. I also believe this site is a piece of technology that, when implemented, would communicate the content at hand and support content knowledge, or the subject matter being taught. A future educator could use this in their classroom by creating a blended learning lesson, complete with videos, podcasts done by teachers, and a face-to-face learning assessment. Lessons with Edpuzzle can easily be done face-to-face and/or online from home.
Seesaw is a site that can be used to help students visualize difficult-to-understand concepts and create scaffolds. When an instructor is creating an activity, they have the option of choosing amongst five different response templates. Creative Canvas allows for students to learn from an interactive activity with multimedia tools. Assessment assesses learning with auto-graded questions; students receive graded feedback immediately. Upload Resource allows educators to upload a PDF, image, video, or Google file. Images and videos provide multiple means of representation of content and enhance engagement from learners. Link Resource allows for link sharing and the use of multimedia tools. Finally, Note lets students write longer text responses. Students benefit from Seesaw for many reasons.
Seesaw promotes student-student communication and collaboration through the multimedia tool usage, Creative Canvas. Students are able to upload voice recordings, videos, photos, and other files that can aid in collaboration and communication.
Seesaw encourages student-teacher communication via the auto-grade feature that is found in the Assessment option when creating an assignment. This feature provides students with immediate graded feedback from the teacher. Seesaw also allows the educator to pair an external resource with an assigned activity to encourage students to use knowledge in other areas that will help them complete the assignment.
Students have the ability to create step-by-step guides and visual sequences by way of the multimedia features. These features help students break down a problem into multiple steps that anyone can tackle.
Seesaw gives students the ability to collaborate and communicate during an assignment, so individual students are able to see what their peers are doing and spot patterns within the ways that different students solve problems and answer questions.
Why?
This site is a favorite tech tool of mine because it is incredibly versatile and lets students have fun during the learning experience by way of the vast range of tools and features students and educators can utilize. Connections to ISTE Student Standards include 1.5.c Decompose Problems and 1.5.d Algorithmic Thinking. Students can break problems down into smaller parts, extract pertinent information, and develop models to understand intricate systems and facilitate problem-solving. Students can also use algorithmic thinking to develop steps to create and test automated solutions. A future educator could use this in their classroom by creating a multi-dimensional lesson, including videos, images for visual learners, longer reflection questions, and more. Students can pick which method of learning they prefer and go with it.
