List of Decisions

The team has decided to add two additional days to our work schedule this week to complete the webpage and the final build. Final build date has been scheduled for the weekend of Nov. 24 -25 in order to be complete for final testing on 26 Nov 2018.

Justin R and Thomas W. determined that a voltage divider circuit was required between the Raspberry Pi and Arduino communications pins. The circuit was designed, created, tested and proved operational. This circuit is being added to the wiring diagram.

Thomas W. downloaded a smart phone microphone app called "Easy Microphone", which is compatible to pair via Bluetooth for announcements over the speakers. This allows for microphone volume to be controlled by the smart device instead of at the speaker. All team members agreed on the decision.

Thomas W. has obtained an Arduino solder shield to make the wire terminations to the Arduino Uno more secure. Arduino and shield were placed in a 3D-printed plastic enclosure to protect the microcontroller from any debris and remove any potential live electrical surfaces while working inside the scoreboard. All team members agreed on the decision.

An engineering change request was put in by James S. after consultation with Mr. Volkening to re-evaluate the upper and lower control limits for the SPI and CPI of the EVA graph. All team members agreed on the decision.

The speakers were wired and tested and it was discovered that the volume of both speakers cannot be controlled from a single face plate. Justin R and Justin V proposed removing the speaker controls face plate controls from the control box and replacing it with the Bluetooth pairing module in order to give the user access to pair multiple devices to the system. All team members agreed on the decision.

Justin V. proposed to draw a wiring diagram of the scoreboard. The wiring diagram will include wire label identification for individual wires and wire termination for future ease of maintenance. The remaining team members approved of decision.

During prototype wiring, Justin V. and Thomas W. found issues with the increment and decrement buttons causing low voltage to the Arduino, turning off the LED drivers when pressed. The issue was solved by changing the Arduino to operate off of 5 VDC through the USB-B port. This decision allowed proper functionality of the LED drive circuits. Justin V. proposed to draw a wiring diagram of the scoreboard. The wiring diagram will include wire label identification for individual wires and wire termination for future ease of maintenance. The remaining team members approved of decision.

During the last team meeting, we decided to remove the rechargeable battery from both speakers and power them from the scoreboard’s internal 12V supply. This saves us from buying a 9V buck converter for the batteries. We also decided a reset button for the micro-controller will be installed in the control box along with the other scoreboard controls. This allows the user to reset the micro-controller without opening the scoreboard or turning off the power.

Justin V. and James S. found an our 9Vdc converter was unstable. Justin V. and Thomas W. solved this issue by disconnecting the 9Vdc speaker battery and Wiringing an external 12Vdc system voltage. The remaining team members approved of decision.

Justin V. updated the command center mechanical drawing by removing per cut mounting holds due to the risk of non-alignment. The remaining team members approved of decision.

All team members involved, James S. modified mode select code, due to the design change in manual control. Thomas W. built the universal PCB layout design so James S. and Thomas W. can prove the design is valid. Justin V. and Justin R. mounted power distribution terminal blocks and ran wires to electrical devices to advance the working prototype.

Justin V. has updated the command center mechanical drawings to house the speaker controls, fuse panel, manual push buttons and rocker switch mode select panel. This change was necessary to add a friendly user interface. Remaining team members approved of the decision.

Due to the issue of indicating scoreboard mode status, James S. found the solution of using rocker switches to replace visuals mode status and manual scoreboard control. The visual mode status was necessary for simplifying both visual and controls with the addition of extra USB ports. Remaining team members approved of the decision.

The team reached out to Fanshawe college Manufacturing Technology capstone students for the design and construction of a scoreboard holding structure. The team was successful and found Rishabh Sangar to meet our project demands. Remaining team members approved of the decision.

All inventory of purchased parts will be stored at Justin V. stock room. Prototype scoreboard assembled at the home of James S.at the teams convenience. Final manufactured scoreboard enclosure will be assembled at Justin V. personal shop do to access to proper tooling. Remaining team members approved of the decision.

Justin V. sent mechanical drawing into manufacturing by Advantage Machine and Tool Inc. Remaining team members approved of the decision.

Justin V. and James S. changed the direction of grade-A surface from the door to rear enclosure mounted. This resolved the issues of wiring components on the door. Justin V. design mounting shelf to compensate for the lack of a back mounting plate. Remaining team members approved of the decision.

Thomas W. and Justin V. added mechanical input/output header terminals to make the universal PCB layout modular. Remaining team members approved of the decision.

Justin V. designed the fuse panel schematic and assembled wiring. Remaining team members approved of the decision.

Justin V. finalized the scoreboard decal and had the design manufactured by Al Jewell Perfect Signs Ltd. Remaining team members approved of the decision.

Due to the issue of synchronized left and right speakers, Justin V. resolved the issue by running auxiliary cables to a bluetooth transmitter receiver. Remaining team members approved of the decision.

James S. purposed rotating speaker orientation, therefore, reducing four inches of scoreboard enclosure depth. Furthermore, this decision lead to the current front speaker mounting bracket configuration. Remaining team members approved of decision and Justin V. made the mechanical changes.

James S. designed 7 segment code and tested with the aid of Thomas W. debugging LED segment testing rig version one and two. This was done in advance to expedite functionality. Remaining team members approved of the decision.

Justin V., Thomas W. and James S. agreed to build scoreboard mock two -slim version- and dry fit components. Remaining team members approved of the decision.

Justin V. designed the scoreboard enclosure version one. James S. and Thomas W. assisted with prototyping to test the accuracy of the dimensions. Remaining team members approved of the decision.

Justin V. has designed and built the LED segment testing rig version two. The second module was required to test the serial link between two drive microchips. Remaining team members approved of the decision.
