Structure and Function

The Parliament of Pontunia is a unicameral body, meaning it consists of a single legislative chamber. It is elected by the citizens through a proportional method and holds legislative power. The Parliament is elected for a four-month term unless dissolved earlier.

Members and Voting

Members of Parliament (MPs) are elected to represent the people and vote on legislative matters based on their best conscience and will. Political parties cannot demote or expel members for not complying with party instructions.

Speaker of Parliament

The Speaker is elected during the first session of a new Parliament and whenever a vacancy arises. The Speaker can be removed by a parliamentary vote, and they have the authority to maintain order during sessions, including suspending members who cause disorder.

Legislative Process

Parliament is responsible for creating and amending laws, including those with constitutional status.

Government Oversight

Parliament has the authority to remove the government through a motion of no confidence. It also proposes Supreme Court judges to the Crown and can dissolve itself through a motion or by royal decree.
