Their are a wide range of acceptable portal submissions, with criteria being regularly updated on wayfarer advising of acceptable submissions. Due to ever changing criteria does mean stops that were previously approved, may no longer be deemed as valid submissions such as the never ending debate of Post box eligibility in the UK.
Some widely accepted POi are as follows:
Playgrounds/skateparks which are accessible to the general public. If a part of a school it should not be submitted
Park welcome signs can be submitted, included those at different entrances if relatively far apart eg Inch Park North Entrance & Inch Park South Entrance
This can be a range of things from wooden carvings in parks to murals on walls which are not on single resident property.
Park Gazebos and picnic areas with roofing are considered to be useful points of interest within a park by niantic
Information signs in public park are eligible and can potential have multiple in a park if are relatively far apart or provide different information such as on park events, wildlife & history.
Towns often have information boards outside in communal areas to provide information about future events, town meetings and planned construction. Due to the information provided these are seen as acceptable submissions
Churches, Mosques and any other place of Worship is considered to have cultural and historical value for a community and should always get approved.
Community Centres and Libraries are seen as essential hubs for all local communities.
Sport Clubs such as for local teams are seen as acceptable submission with relevant signs at entrance to validate submission. All types of smart clubs can be submitted from football, rugby to bowling clubs.
General consensus for field to be deemed permanent is the requirement for the facility to have fixed equipment such as goal posts for football/rugby, net for tennis and a pitch for cricket, hoop for Basketball etc. Furthermore these fields should not be within the grounds of a school to meet criteria.
Post offices which are clearly advertised on properties are considered eligible submissions
Trail markers are generally accepted if they include the name of the trail, markers with no clear trail name are often likely to be rejected.
Permanent statues on public property will likely always get approved on wayfarer
Historic buildings which listed can be considered as valid points of interest of detailed description and history is provided to verify its significant. If building is a single residents then it should not be submitted as is not eligible under current criteria
Please make sure to check submission will not be within 20m of centre of existing POi and that it does not already exist in ingress before submitting.
