Poetry Across Cultures India

About Us

Poetry Across Cultures(PAC) is a non-profit organization of poets and prose-writers which promotes appreciation of poetry across cultures and global bonding through this literary art form. This body aims to diminish the dichotomy between the east and the west through an exchange of poetry and different poetic voices with similar expressions and is a step towards using poetry to expose poets, poetry-lovers, and the student community in general, to the poetry of other cultures and vice versa.

PAC has been organizing individual and collaborative literary meets that are a showcase of the convergence of thoughts in Indian poetry and the poetry of other lands. Some events are a showcase of dialogues between poetry and other art-forms like music, dance, painting and the like. Through these enriching literary meets that transcend frontiers of language and geographical borders, young students and poets find a platform to express poetic-confluence of thoughts and connoisseurs of poetry get an enriching exposure to the verse, culture and traditions of our land as well as of other lands and cultures.

From the President's Desk

Poetry is a powerful medium of expression that connects lives of people from all over the world through a fusion of emotions, images, symbols, metaphors, melody and rhythm. A poet is not isolated from society, nor from one's geographical environment or from one's social and cultural landscape in her search for truth and often returns to poetry to give vent to her emotions and perceptions. In fact a poet's verse is often reminiscent of her search for meaning in life and a woman-poet usually looks for her legitimate claim to dignity and equal opportunities in a society whose meanings seem to be falling apart.

A woman, one would agree, has myriad aspects to her. She's an amalgam of so many strengths, so much patience, tolerance, sensitivity and much more. Her sensitive conscience orders her poetic sense that creates its own space in her verse. Woman has been marginalized for too long. Her bitterness at being exploited day in and day out naturally arouses the woman in her and finds expression in her poetic content. Poetry is the medium to reach out to others and awaken them to a woman's sensibility. It emerges from her dialogue with the silent self, exploring the inner and outer worlds away from the vortex of complexities of existence. Many aspects of her writing are an emotional response to her social thought. Through this literary art form, the poet is able to give voice to her latent-but-alive emotional pattern, more so because she knows and believes that poetry can have a social connotation and still be art.
