As I walked out the front door with an anxiety-ridden mind, the hot sticky air overtook me, dragging me out of my air-conditioned home. Water bottle in hand, I began my trek to the car with racing thoughts about everything that could go wrong at this doctor’s appointment. I HATED those doctor’s appointments. With sweaty hands and quivering lips, I mumbled a quick “yes” to my mom as she yelled after me to ensure I had the keys before she locked up.
Climbing into the car, I noticed a quick flash of white where one wouldn’t typically be. Letting my hand slip off the car door, I slowly walked over to the bushes to find a sheet of lined paper signed by my neighbor, Mrs Gramza. Clutching the page, still damp from the morning dew, I began to read. Out of the corner of my eye I noticed a gift bag on the porch. Glancing through tears I opened it up to find a motivational journal and a huge stuffed bunny in a pink tutu.
This dancing bunny made me think of you…a beautiful dancer. Just want you to know that I'm here for you and I pray for you daily.
Now sobbing, I retreated to my concerned mom next to the car clutching the bunny tight. Smelling fresh out of the store, with its soft fur sticking to my sweaty skin. Nothing more than cotton and fabric on the surface, but somehow everything I could ever need. For the first time in a long time, I felt like I had a guardian angel. And she lived right across the street.
