Planning Your Podcast

You've learned that podcasts vary; with some being loosely structured, whilst others being heavily scripted. Some have guests or stories. Regardless of the format, before recording, it can be helpful to create a plan. What type of format do you want? What are the different topics you'll discuss in the episode? Will it be scripted or loosely structured?


Before you start podcasting, consider the following:

Know your audience! Decide whether your podcast is aimed at for example dog lovers, students or both. 

Focus on one idea! So, you don't confuse your listeners and keep them engaged.

Have some structure! Take the listener on a consistent audio journey. 

Prepare! If you write a script, you may want to practice reading it before recording to ensure you sound natural and don't stumble over your words.

Play it to someone! What sounds great to you, may not to others. 

Be authentic, engaging and knowledgeable! But don't overload your audience with facts and figures.

Be welcoming and respectful! If you have guests on your show, create a good rapport beforehand and host with grace, even if you disagree with their views.
