Program for Toddlers

Pocatello Valley Montessori School started welcoming toddlers in the Fall of 2017. Children ages eighteen months to thirty six months gain valuable skills in the toddler preschool program. We offer full and half-day programs, with before and after care, as needed. Applications are available online, or at the school.

Maria Montessori, who developed the Montessori method, observed children with a scientific curiosity. She developed materials shared them with children and watched closely to see how they responded. Her observations led her to modify and adjust the materials so that they would provide the right stimulation to help children grow and develop.

Practical Life Skills for Toddlers

We focus on helping children expand their language skills–learning vocabulary as well as their social and emotional skills. Toilet training and other personal care skills, like brushing teeth, hand washing, combing hair mark major milestones for toddlers. We help children with toilet training by encouraging independence as early as practical.

Practical life skills like dish washing and baking might seem like unusual activities in a toddler preschool classroom. But they are an important component of the Montessori approach.

Montessori Preschool is Much More than “Daycare”

At the toddler level, Montessori materials are bright and attractive to young children. They are designed to draw young hands to work with them. Many of the materials are made from wood, which gives them beauty and a bit of heft. They feel nice in the hands and they stimulate young brains to explore and learn more about the environment.

At this age, children are drawn toward tasks that develop their focus and concentration, help them refine their gross and fine motor skills, and practice their coordination and eye tracking abilities. Come visit the school to learn more about our programs and facilities.
