About University:

On the historical land of Champaran, Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, began the first “Satyagraha movement” against the atrocities of British Raj, therefore the university is named after the name of Bapu as Mahatma Gandhi Central University.

The territory of the State of Bihar being large, its requirement for access to, and quality in higher education was not being adequately met with just one Central University. In addition to existing one i.e. Central University of South Bihar at Gaya, establishment of one more Central University was felt necessary. Therefore, the Mahatma Gandhi Central University was established under the Central University (Amendment) Act 2014 [No. 35 of 2014] enacted by the Parliament.

The University is fully funded and regulated by the University Grants Commission (UGC). There are total seven different schools with 15 departments. The University has temporary campus of Central University is presently located within the Zila School Campus, Motihari. Around 300-acre land for the permanent campus has been allotted by the Govt. of Bihar.

About Dept. CS&IT:

The University has established eighteen departments with undergraduate and postgraduate courses. It is also offering B.Tech(CSE) and M.Tech (Computer Science) course in department of Computer Science & IT under school of CS&IT. These programs are especially designed to provide the theoretical background along with practical experience in the field of Computer Science to meet the growing manpower requirements of the global software and hardware industry. Dept. CS&IT is mainly focused on the following research areas like Machine Learning, Big data analytics, Data Mining, Parallel Computing, Cloud computing, Internet of things (IoT), Cyber security.
