Richard Shaughnessy, clarinet

Clarinetist Richard Shaughnessy performs on both modern and period instruments. He has played with the Handel & Haydn Society, Emmanuel Music, the Arcadia Players, the Worcester Orchestra and Boston Baroque. In Europe he has performed at the Edinburgh Festival, and has played concerts in Paris and Frankfurt. He has appeared as concerto soloist with the Nashua (NH) Symphony, where he was principal clarinet. He often participates in chamber music recitals, and has made several recordings, including the first recording of Siegfried Karg-Elert’s Jugend (Youth), for flute, clarinet, horn and piano, Ralf Yusuf Gawlick's Kinderkreuzzug, and a newly released recording of Haydn's The Creation with Boston Baroque. Mr. Shaughnessy teaches clarinet and chamber music at Boston College, the New England Conservatory Preparatory School, and the All Newton Music School, where he is also coordinator of the wind instrument department. He coaches clarinet and woodwind sections at the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra, and his former students have attended Juilliard, New England Conservatory, Boston Conservatory, the Eastman School of Music, and other major professional schools.
