For fishing the Tobyhanna, we have found that a five-weight rod and line is best for waters. This size rod lets you cast far enough to get your fly in the best spots on the stream while also allowing for more sensitive presentations of smaller flies. A four-weight or a six weight rig are fine as well.
Here is a link to a good "all-in-one" rod, reel, and line set up, but if you have the chance, you might want to support your local fly-shop and staff and ask them about rods. reels and lines. If you are around the Preserve, AA Outfitters in Blakeslee and the Evening Hatch in White Haven on route 940 are glad to help.
While waders and boots are harder for us to supply you with due to show size and height, we always have rods set up with reels and line for you to use.
Here is a package deal that will work well for new anglers interested in trying out the sport. While the deal does not come with a 25-year breakage replacement offer, the rod and real will do well on the Tobyhanna.
If you know you are going to like this sport and want a rod that comes with a 25-year replacement guarantee, the Orvis Clearwater series is a solid package deal that you might try. TFO (Twin Forks Outfitters), Fenwick, Loomis and Sage and others offer similar packages.
