Welcome to the SCOOP Website!
General Competition Information!
1) Competition Dates/Schools/Call times to school TBD
2) Admission- All competitions serve as a large fundraiser for the host school. The ticket to get into the competition gets you in for the entire day, not just for our schools. They are approximately $10-$15 each (non-school age children are usually free) for the day and will often have an "add-on cost" for finals. There is also a cafeteria for concessions (breakfast/lunch/dinner/snack) for purchase throughout the day. Most schools take cards nowadays to avoid having cash be an issue. Students do not need to pay admission.
3) Outside food and drink- with the exception of a sealed water bottle, outside food and drink of any kind is prohibited and can cause a negative score for a school if outside food is brought into a homeroom. There are exceptions for students with dietary/health needs and I can let host directors know this in advance. Please communicate these needs with directors.
4) Attire- Our students dress to impress at our competitions. All students will get off the bus in dress attire: dress slacks, nice shirt, dress, skirt/nice top, dress shoes/socks/tights. In addition, in the evening, if a group makes finals, the students may change into their jerseys and more comfortable pants/leggings/jeans. Please dress appropriately for these events as well (it's also the dead of winter in Nebraska and students should dress for cold weather). Inappropriate writing, short skirts, low-cut tops, etc. should be avoided. The saying of "if you wouldn't wear it in front of your conservative grandmother, don't wear it to a competition."
5) Tights/shoes/make-up/hair- Directors will be making decisions regarding hair and make-up and some make-up and hair accessories will be provided as covered through their fees. Ladies should plan to have their own: base make-up/powder/mascara/hairspray/bobby pins/hair ties/curling irons/wands by January. Also, please invest in clear/spray deodorant so as to not get white deodorant on the costumes. In addition, make-up wipes, Tide pens, static cling spray, aren't bad items to have as well. A duffel bag in addition to a garment bag are essential to travel for the day.
7) Medication- Students are in charge of their own medicine/inhalers. If a director needs to be made aware of any health needs while traveling, please contact them ASAP.
8) Homerooms- students will have a classroom to call their homerooms throughout the day. Unless a parent is a room parent, non-show choir students and adults are not allowed in the homerooms. Students should not bring family members or friends into any of the homerooms and students should stay out of other homerooms not associated with PLHS. All costumes, garment bags, individual items should all be labeled with the student's name AND PLHS. If something gets left behind we need to be able to claim it from the host school.
9) Parent Preview/End of Season Recognition- TBD
10) Leaving a competition- We expect all students to ride the bus and stay the entire day. If for some reason, a student needs to be dropped off at a different time or picked up early, parents should discuss that with directors ASAP. We support each of our groups and it's very beneficial to watch other schools. Students should not come and go without permission and only with a parent/guardian. At the end of the competition, parents may bring their students home from the competition, if they are also in attendance. Please communicate that with directors the week of the competition. Students will be in contact at the end of the competition to be picked up at PLHS. These are late nights and it is greatly appreciated that students are promptly picked up so directors and adults can also get home. If you follow the PLHS SCOOP Facebook page, we will update you throughout the day of the competition.
11) Schedules- Schedules will be sent out soon. Host schools are finalizing the schedules and preparing for their events. When I get a final schedule I will send them out. A weekly itinerary will also be sent out each week leading up to a competition. Typically, Monarchy performs in the early morning, Heart and Soul in the mid-late morning, and Free Spirit in the afternoon. Finals begin around dinner time.
12) Inappropriate behavior at competitions or during "season" at school- We expect exemplary behavior from our PLHS students. Disrespect to other students, other schools, and adults will not be tolerated. In addition, if a behavior is not tolerated at school, it will not be tolerated while competing. An offense will keep that student from a competition the following week. If a student is issued disciplinary actions at school that suspends them for any period of time during competition season, they will not compete that week.
If you have any specific questions, please email your DIRECTOR ( meredith.lheureux@plcschools.org for Heart and Soul/Free Spirit and lindsey.ussery@plcschools.org for Monarchy/Free Spirit). All competitions are mandatory as all students are on stage the entire time and we have no back-ups. They are all an integral part of their show and six months of hard work! Please avoid scheduling ACT/SAT tests, college visits, and family vacations during this time. Directors and the SCOOP board are so excited to get the competition ball rolling as it's getting so close to show time!!
Thank you!
