The Plex TV application allows you to stream movies, TV shows, music, photos, and personal media across multiple devices. To begin using Plex on a Smart TV, Roku, Fire Stick, Apple TV, gaming console, or streaming box, you must first connect the app to your Plex account.
Enabling the Plex TV application means connecting the Plex app installed on your device to your Plex account.
Once enabled, the app can:
Access your Plex Media Server
Stream your personal media collection
Sync watch history
Access shared libraries
Use Plex streaming features and content
Before enabling Plex on your device, make sure you have:
You'll need a Plex account to connect devices and access Plex services. Plex supports sign-in using email, Google, or Apple accounts.
Install the Plex app from your device's app store.
Both your TV device and the browser you're using for activation should have internet access.
Launch the Plex application on your:
Smart TV
Roku
Fire TV Stick
Apple TV
Android TV
Xbox
PlayStation
Select Sign In when prompted.
The Plex app will display a unique 4-character code on your screen.
This temporary code is used to securely connect the device to your account
Using a phone, tablet, or computer:
Open a web browser.
Go to the Plex device linking page.
Sign in to your Plex account if you're not already signed in.
Type the 4-character code exactly as shown on your TV screen.
After submitting the code, Plex verifies the device and links it to your account.
Within a few seconds, the Plex app refreshes automatically.
Your device is now enabled and connected to your Plex account.
After the application is enabled, you'll be able to:
Watch content stored on your Plex Media Server.
Continue watching from different devices using the same account.
View content shared by family members and friends.
Watch your media while away from home if remote access is configured.
Plex uses short activation codes because entering passwords with a TV remote can be difficult.
Benefits include:
Faster sign-in
Better security
Easier TV setup
Reduced login errors
Quick device authorization
