Visiting Expectations

Always be prepared! It is important to conduct sufficient research about the national park and trails you are planning on visiting before embarking on your adventure! Key items to bring on your trips include refillable water bottles, bug repellent, snacks, maps and sunscreen. Be sure to pack recommended items for your specific park adventure, as the necessary materials often vary. Additionally, before beginning any trails, it is highly recommended that you stop at the Visitors Center for maps, guidance and trail and weather updates. Park rangers are happy to help answer any questions to ensure visitors have an enjoyable & safe park visit.  

Never touch, approach or feed wildlife within national parks. It is dangerous for both you and the animals. You should always be at least 25 yards from all animal. A good reference to use is the "Rule of Thumb". This means that when you hold your thumb out, you should be able to cover the entire animal at all times. This typically indicates you are a safe distance away. With dangerous predators however, you should maintain a safe distance of at least 100 yards, as they can be a threat to visitors' lives. Also, always be sure to avoid stepping on, touching, or picking any plants or flowers within a national park.
