Set a Good Example as a Visitor:
Be sure to follow key visiting rules when exploring national parks: leave no trace, do not litter, stay on trail, be prepared, camp responsibly and maintain a safe distance away from wildlife. See these pages for more details- Visiting Expectations & Disrespectful Visitors
Help Other Visitors:
Here are some specific ways to contribute to the combined effort of visiting responsibly:
Pick up after others- If you see trash or litter within the parks, help our rangers and dispose it properly. Every contribution helps protect the parks!
Remind others of visiting expectations- If you see someone approaching, touching or feeding wildlife, kindly remind them of the Rule of Thumb/the 25-yard Rule. Also, remind visitors who are going off trail about the dangers and consequences of their actions. See Visiting Expectations for further details.
Visit Less Crowded Parks:
While this may seem insignificant, visiting smaller parks can contribute to reducing overcrowding seen at many of the larger national parks. Overcrowding can lead to increased park damage and an unpleasant park experience. So, show some love & support at our the smaller ones National Parks!
Volunteer:
Volunteering is a great way to help our parks and make a positive impact! Try Volunteer.gov for opportunities!

Establish Your Own Project:
Help our parks in any way you can! You can help through working, volunteering or donating to the National Park Service. You can also research and dedicate your time and money to other organizations like the National Park Foundation or the National Park Conservation.

Donate:
If you have the resources, donating is a great way to fund efforts to protect and improve our parks. It is strongly suggested that you conduct outside research on where to donate to find suitable organizations. Some organizations to consider are the National Park Foundation, the National Park Conservation Association, the Nature Conservancy and most notably the National Park Service, which can direct you to several other donation sites.
Join Organizations:
Become a member of an organization or committee dedicated to the mission of conservation, preservation & protection of our national parks.
Some organizations to consider include The Nature Conservancy, The National Park Foundation, the National Park Service and the National Park Conservation Association! They are all dedicated to helping our national parks.
Be Environmentally Friendly:
National parks have faced significant struggles due to climate change and global warming, so do your part! Help reduce the stress on our parks by limiting your carbon footprint, conserving water, using more eco-friendly forms of transportation, reducing emission of greenhouse gasses by burning fewer fossil fuels, and limit plastic use by using reusable water bottles, straws and bags. Every effort makes a big difference!
