EXPERIENCE

Media Specialist/Instructor of Professional Development

Numerous technology-related professional development sessions are taught to teachers such as how to integrate instructional technology resources in the classroom (using student response systems, incorporating iPads/iPods/iPhones in the classroom, utilizing SMART technologies such as airliners/slates, smartboards, etc., and using a plethora of Web 2.0 tools, social bookmarking, and social networking sites for educational purposes). Various Google Apps for Education (GAFE) sessions are conducted on a regular basis to help teachers integrate Google tools as instructional technology resources. Extensive use and instruction using Chromebooks is also conducted on a regular basis.

I developed a professional learning course called Technocademy. Technology resources were introduced, teachers were given time to implement the resources in their classroom, and time was allotted to discuss success or problems during the next class. ISTE Standards were discussed as well as digital citizenship and our county Acceptable Use Policy. The course consisted of five meeting dates that were three hours each. Teachers earned professional development hours for participating in the 7-month long course.

I also developed a unique professional development program called Google Mania, which allowed teachers to attend a 3-hour professional development course during the instructional day, up to 4 times during the year. Teachers chose a partner who had an adjoining planning time so they could take turns attending the 3-hour session (to eliminate the need for substitutes). The goal was to immerse the teachers in Google information to aid in the implementation of Google Apps for Education.
