Playhouse Square was built as a performing arts center located in Downtown Cleveland Ohio. It was built in the early 1920s after 19 months of construction. The man who opened of Stillman movie house on East 12th street, Joesph Laronge envisioned a row of theaters between 14th and 17th street in Downtown Cleveland. Marcus Loew and others founded partnership called Lowe's Ohio Theaters to develop the area.

According to Wikipedia it is the largest performing arts center in the United States outside of New York City.
