Today we live in an age where digital technology plays a vital role in our world: communication, research, and entertainment amongst others. Social media platforms have also become a common virtual place where families and friends who are physically distant can connect with each other.
The pandemic ushered in a number of changes and adjustments in the way we do things. In education, there is the shift from traditional instruction to online modes of learning. There may be fears and concerns over embracing digital technologies in teaching the faith but St. John Paul II encourages us to "not be afraid of new technologies! These rank ‘among the marvelous things’ … which God has placed at our disposal to discover, to use and to make known the truth, also the truth about our dignity and about our destiny as His children, heirs of His eternal Kingdom.” Technology, when used appropriately, can serve as a tool for evangelization and religious education.
Our present context has challenged the creator to work on this online platform over the quarantine period and publish it as a response to both the Church's call for the New Evangelization and the emerging ways of passing on the Faith in the 'new normal.' Platform J316 hopes to help those who desire to grow in their understanding of the Christian faith and their relationship with God, especially the catechists and religious educators.
