This Privacy Policy explains what information Plant Identifier ("the app", "we") handles when you use it on your iPhone.
The app has no accounts and no sign-in. We do not ask for your name, email or phone number.
The app contains no advertising and no in-app purchases.
Photos you choose to identify are sent to an AI service (Google Gemini API) to be analyzed. We do not sell your data.
We use Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics to understand usage and fix crashes.
The app asks for permission to use your camera and/or photo library only so you can take or pick a picture of a plant, tree or flower to identify. The app only reads the photo you take or select. You can revoke permission at any time in iOS Settings > Plant Identifier.
When you start an identification, the selected image is sent over an encrypted connection (HTTPS) to Google's Gemini API, which analyzes it and returns the plant name and care information. This is the core feature of the app. The image is processed by Google according to Google's own terms and privacy policy for the Gemini API (https://policies.google.com/privacy and https://ai.google.dev/gemini-api/terms). We do not use your images to identify you, and we do not share them with anyone else.
Your scan history, favourites and "My Plants" list, your language and theme preferences are stored locally on your device. We do not receive a copy. Deleting the app, or using "Reset App" in Settings, removes this data.
We use Google Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics (and Firebase Remote Config for app settings). These services may collect device and usage information such as app version, device model, iOS version, approximate region derived from IP address, anonymous app-instance identifiers, app interactions and crash logs. This data is used only to improve stability and the product, and is handled by Google under the Firebase privacy terms (https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy). It is not linked to your identity by us.
We do not show ads or use advertising identifiers for tracking.
We do not sell or rent your personal information.
We do not track you across other companies' apps and websites.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Local data stays on your device until you delete it. We do not keep your photos on our own servers. Retention of data by Google (Gemini API, Firebase) is governed by Google's policies. To ask about data, write to REPLACE-SUPPORT-EMAIL.
The app is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
Images are transmitted using encryption in transit. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Depending on where you live (for example the EEA, UK or California) you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal data and to object to processing. As we do not hold an account or identity for you, most data is on your device or with Google; contact us and we will help where we can.
We may update this policy. The date at the top shows the latest version; continued use means you accept the update.
