I mainly do art in the area of real life and fictional animals and scenes for genres such as speculative evolution, fantasy worldbuilding or other hobbies that involve fictional biospheres.
I won't speculate for you, but I will assist with visual design as long as you have a detailed written concept. Same for backgrounds, if you want specific plant species or details (or don't want something), please say so.
I am not a paleo artist or a palaeontologist. I will fulfil requests for prehistoric artwork as accurately as my knowledge will allow, but please bear in mind that they are for entertainment only and should not be used for educational purposes.
Throughout the process of producing your artwork I will keep in communication with you and show you early rough sketches and previews so that you can provide input and have some control over the process.
Single Animals:
For all works please specify if you would like outlined or lineless art. Single animals will generally be between 1000x1000 and 2000x2000 pixels. Please specify if you would like an exact size.
Single animal line art without colour:
£15 simple, low detail
£30 complex, high detail
Single animal coloured:
£30 simple, low detail
£45 complex, high detail
For works with no background you will receive both a white background and transparent background version in both .PNG and .JPEG format, totalling to 4 files.
Single Flora:
Flora is any non-heterotrophic organism, that is, they do not (usually) feed on other organisms but instead derive energy and nutrients primarily from inorganic sources, such as chemicals in the air and water, or light from the sun. These include but are not limited to plants, fungi and bacteria.
Single flora line art without colour:
Either a single organism or if colonial, a sample of a colony. If colonial, magnified individual will accompany illustration. If fruiting or flowering, fruit and/or flower will accompany illustration.
£15 simple, low detail (e.g. few, large leaves and branches, few/large short ordered spines, smooth stems/bark, single flowering heads)
£30 complex, high detail (e.g. many small leaves and branches, many crossing spines, rough bark, many flowering heads)
Single flora line art coloured:
Same as above, but with colour.
£30 simple, low detail
£45 complex, high detail
Some organisms have a more complex life cycle than others, and if you would like your creature's life cycle illustrated in detail here are the options:
All one page or separate:
You can choose between having all of your life cycle stages on one page or as separate images. Does not affect price. Background/text will be simple or placeholder, that will be up to you to change later if you want but I can give you separate layers as .PNGs.
Full detail: Full regular price per image.
This option is effectively the regular prices shown above for each illustrated stage of the life cycle at around 2400x2400. Recommended for when you have just two or three life cycle stages and want to show them separately.
Medium detail: Regular price x 0.66 per image
This option is typically around 1200x1200 pixels for each illustrated stage of the life cycle. All illustrated stages are 2/3rds the price of a regular full size illustration.
Low detail: Regular price x 0.33 per image
Aims for around 500x500 pixels for each illustrated stage of the life cycle. Recommended for showing many life cycle stages all on one page. All illustrated stages are 1/3rd the price of a regular full size illustration.
I now do maps!
I will:
Offer visual flavour fictional world maps, either fantasy or simulated realistic. I start with a rectangular hand sketch, then use GPlates to switch from rectangular to globe and plot movement of continents, subduction zones, and rifts, and also to be able to get an accurate globe to rectangular map projection on export before I paint over. You will also be given all work-in-progress files and the GPlates project (if you want it) for your own reference. Simulating tectonics is a more time-consuming process to set up, so series of maps that show continental movement will have a small extra charge.
I won't:
Try to make Earth-accurate maps or simulations of Earth history or future, or very technical, very accurate maps. I feel this requires a more refined skillset I don't have (but I'd be happy to try and source other artists who might).
For examples, all maps that have been made for this project so far (with the exception of one map by YellowPanda) have been my own work and are a good example of what you might get. The default size will be 4000x2000, just let me know if you want another size.
Prices:
For a solitary, static map: £55
For a series of maps with plate tectonics: £55 per image plus £25 for setting up the GPlates project.
If you're looking for a size in-between those shown, a price can be worked out. The below is just a guide, please specify aspect ratio or exact proportions that you would like. Jungle scenes or scenes with equivalent detail cost extra due to the complexity. Scenes with many animal subjects cost more than scenes with one to three subjects.
Please be aware that if you cannot afford a larger painting but want one, there's another option: You can commission a small size painting then ask me to run it through Upscayl, an AI image resizer (you can also do it yourself, it's free, but I'm happy to do it for you). This will resize small images into larger images without making them blurry or losing any sharpness. However, there will be imperfections and artefacts of the AI generative process in an upscaled painting, which is a trade-off to using this method over commissioning a painting that was hand-painted at a larger size to start with.
Background Prices by Size:
Small background images (suitable for card-size print, not suitable for book or poster print):
(£70 Default) Small background images are equivalent to 360,000 sq. pixels (600x600).
(+£20) Jungle scenes or scenes with equivalent detail
(+£10) Scenes with many animal subjects.
Medium-size background images (suitable for small print and full display on computer monitors):
(£140 Default) Medium background images are equivalent to up to 1,440,000 sq. pixels (1200x1200).
(+£40) Jungle scenes or scenes with equivalent detail.
(+£20) Scenes with many animal subjects.
Large background images (suitable for double page or small poster print):
(£700 Default) Large background images are equivalent to up to 36,000,000 sq. pixels (6000x6000).
(+£200) Jungle scenes or scenes with equivalent detail.
(+£100) Scenes with many animal subjects.
I am happy to do smaller or larger, or anything in-between. Just ask and we can work something out.
All payments currently carried out through PayPal.
If you wish to not pay the cost of a larger painting but still want a larger one, there's another option: you can commission a small size painting then ask me to run it through Upscayl, an AI image resizer (you can also do it yourself, it's free, but I'm happy to do it for you). This will resize small images into larger images without making them blurry or losing any sharpness. However, there will be imperfections and artefacts of the AI resizing process in an upscaled painting, which is a trade-off to using this method over commissioning a painting that was hand-painted at a larger size to start with. Another trade-off is that you can only upscale in multipliers of the image original size, not an exact size of choice and only up to 4x.
For an example, below are two comparisons of a picture that was painted at 2094 x 3953.
For the first picture: This compares the shrunken original painting on the left with the Upscayl output from that shrunken painting on the right. This shrunken image was all the up-scaler had to go by, it did not "know" about the original full resolution picture.
Shrunken version of original painting:

For the second picture: This compares the original painting with no edits on the left, with on the right the same output as above of up-scaling the shrunken image.

Personal Discord Server - I check multiple times a day. If you DM (catnine9), please state in your first message that you would like an artwork done. As a precaution I ignore any DMs that are too vague due to the high number and increased sophistication of scams and hacks as of late. You all should take care on there too.
Reddit - "CatNine" u/ExoSpectral - I check daily. Reddit's message notifications aren't working right now for some users (me included) so please have patience or use another means if I don't see your message quickly. I will check often, though.
Speculative Evolution Forums - ExoSpectral - I check once every few days.
