Disaster Declaration Declared 8/20/24
Join us for Plainfield Community Night this Friday to build connection and neighborly vibes.
We’ll have a full farmers market from 4-7, community meal with potluck welcome starting around 6, and music by Jason Mallery.
Following the market and meal we invite folks to stay for conversation to get to know your neighbors more and build relationships with each other.
There will be a Saturday State of VT pickup at the Park & Ride. Plainfield residents only, flood debris only. You will be asked to prove Plainfield residency with ID, either as driver or passenger.
This includes furniture, carpets, drywall, plaster, lumber, insulation, books and blankets and other wet or damaged household debris.
It does not include white goods (refrigerators and other appliances), electronics, woody debris, or junk fill. Stay tuned for opportunities in the future to dispose of those items.
We are asking for volunteers, particularly those with pickup trucks, to help people move this debris down into the village.
If you need help loading and/or moving flood waste to the P&R on the designated day, email me to let me know your needs.
If you can help load and/or transport flood waste to the P&R on the designated day, email me to volunteer.
It is illegal to dump waste at the P&R at any time other than that designated by the Plainfield Disaster Waste Coordinator. Violations of this rule may be prosecuted.

A chance to relax, raise our voices together, sing some harmony, and maybe move some feelings. Heidi will lead songs and then open it up to see if other folks have songs to share that are easy for people to join in on. Feel free to spread the word.

Have you come into contact with floodwater or other contaminated materials? If so, we recommend getting a tetanus shot. You need a tetanus booster every 10 years. Not sure if you're up to date? No problem—we can check at the clinic, or you can call your health care provider. It's safe to get the vaccine even if it’s been less than 10 years.
Get your tetanus shot on Saturday, July 20 in Plainfield, VT at the Grace Methodist Church Lawn from 11 am - 4 pm. Find more flood recovery health and safety resources at HealthVermont.gov/flood.
Please don't park on Mill St or Hudson Ave on Monday July 22nd. We are slotted to have dirt removal at 8am.
About the show:
"This is a story of love and money,
About a man so rich it's not even funny.
But knowing him, you'd be none the wiser,
For this cranky old fellow is, a Miser.
He will not spend a single cent in town,
Which.. you know, makes economy go.. down.
Not even his children touch his pennies;
Their weddings are booked at the local Denny's.
Unless, a servant can swiftly intervene,
Entrapping the old man in a Pyramid scheme!
This summer come watch! Come! away from your Telly!
You'll see with your eyes and laugh with your belly!"
As a fundraiser for Plainfield’s flood recovery, Plainfield Arts presents The Vermont Suitcase Company's “Pillows All the Way Down”, a hilarious family-friendly comedy about a miser whose servant gets him trapped in a Pyramid scheme.

Get hazardous materials away from your home. We have set up a hazardous materials area in town. This area can be used for lawn chemicals, oils, oils based paints and stains, pesticides, batteries and cleaning supplies. This area can also be for electronics.
Please bring all household hazardous materials to the gravel field directly AFTER the Rec Field Parking lot on Recreation Field Rd (picture below).
A state contractor will be picking up these materials in a week or two. Find out more about hazardous materials at DEC.
All other trash and debris should be separated by type and left near the curb or street.

no voting - just informed discussion
Selectboard member Karl Bissex has organized a town-wide meeting to discuss how Plainfield should approach re-building (or not) the post-storm road system. No doubt this will be a difficult conversation as decisions will impact many residents.
To help inform this discussion Karl has tapped a number of experts on The Great Brook to give a scientific perspective on the risks and challenges. Everyone is invited to attend.
We are attempting to organize a zoom link - will keep everyone posted.
