Moira was born in Glass Gardens, a kingdom lost during the Dread to a host of undead and devils. She served the Bone Devil Obsidikis, a ruthless fiend with an unquenchable thirst for conquest. Under the orders of Obsidikis, Moira and her band of tieflings raided villages that served a council of greedy Skull Lords.
When Moira came under the influence of her new patron, she knew that staying in Glass Gardens would be too dangerous; there were too many enemies who knew her well. Instead, she was instructed to go into the neighboring Valley of the Fallen Stars. Her patron told her that Obsidikis had his eye on conquest in the Valley, and might even be making deals with the vampires who lord over it. Moira is to seek out the poison root of whatever powers the undead, and sever it.
Moira came down the Gray Mare River to Rothvel a few days ago. She was not the only stranger debarking there; others were arriving to participate in the Baron's Feast, a series of contests of martial skill and strength.
Seeking out undead foes to battle, Moira was told to t alk with Madam Zolenka, a tortle fortune teller. Unfortunately, Moira did not have the gems needed to purchase a fortune-reading. However, Madam Zolenka let Moira know that all the Valley of the Fallen Stars was under the shadow of the Dread, a 300-year-old curse that brought undeath to all it touched. Sometimes undead washed ashore from the Gray Mare River, or wandered out from the Rothwood.
For the next few days, Moira patrolled the shore of the river and the edge of the Rothwood. She did, in fact, fight a water-bloated zombie that swam up from the depths of the river, and a pair of ghouls who had emerged from the forest to feed on livestock.
On the eve of the Baron's Feast, the villagers of Rothvel celebrated the Night of Bounty by going into the Rothwood to hunt and forage. Moira did not join them, choosing instead to patrol further along the shore. When she returned to town, she heard that Madam Zolenka had been attacked by Nachthund, magical wolves, and that she had been left for dead in he forest. Moira immediately set off into the woods to rescue the old tortle.
So far, Moira has learned that Rothvel is a small barony set between the Rothwood and Gray Mare Lake. Its main produce seems to be pigs: massive swine that are butchered and sold down the river. Rothvel seems to be made up mostly of humans, though there are a few families of tortles who live in a riverside neighborhood known as Mizzle. Moira has heard that Baron Rothvel is a powerful warrior, but has not seen him.
