We are pleased to invite students of architecture, urban design, landscape architecture, environmental sciences, and related disciplines to participate in the international student workshop Agenda 3-30-300, which will be held from 21 to 23 May 2025 in Belgrade, Serbia, as part of the conference Places and Technologies 2025.
This workshop will focus on exploring and proposing nature-based urban solutions that respond to the principles of the Agenda 3-30-300:
A minimum of 3 trees visible from every home or workplace,
30% tree and green coverage in every neighborhood,
A quality green space within 300 meters of every residence.
As part of an ongoing study dedicated to implementing Agenda 3-30-300 in Belgrade, three distinctive urban locations have been selected: Vračar, New Belgrade, and Banovo Brdo (Čukarica). Each represents a specific urban form — from historical urban fabric through modernist planning to a mixed residential structure — offering valuable insight into opportunities for improving urban greenery across different spatial conditions.
The Challenges of a Dense Urban Core
The block surrounding Vladislav Ribnikar Elementary School represents a typical historical urban area, with continuous street fronts, enclosed courtyards, and limited open green space. This location highlights the need for innovative greening solutions like green roofs, vertical greenery, and improved connections to nearby parks.
The Potential of Modernist Planning
The block near the New Belgrade municipal building, shaped by modernist urbanism, offers more extraordinary green spaces and a more straightforward application of the 3-30-300 principles. However, challenges include maintenance and preventing the conversion of green spaces into parking lots, which often undermine original planning intentions.
The Complexity of Transitional Neighborhoods
The block between Zrmanjska and Požeška streets reflects a transition from low-rise housing to mid- and high-rise residential structures, with marked morphological and ownership diversity. This neighborhood provides a valuable testing ground for varied green space preservation and enhancement models, tailored to specific local contexts.
Participants will work in interdisciplinary teams to develop creative and applicable solutions for three diverse urban areas in Belgrade: Vračar, New Belgrade, and Banovo Brdo. Each neighborhood represents a unique urban morphology — from compact historical cores to modernist open blocks and mixed transitional zones — offering a broad spectrum of spatial, social, and ecological conditions for analysis and design.
The workshop will be organized over three days:
21–22 May 2025: Collaborative work sessions, and design development,
23 May 2025: Public presentation of workshop results within a dedicated session at the Places and Technologies 2025 conference.
The workshop will be guided by:
