About PLACE in Cyprus

The project is a collaborative effort between the Civil Society Initiative Association (SiTi) and the NGO Support Centre (NGO SC) and is funded by the European Union under the Civil Society in Action VIII Grant Programme within the framework of the Aid Programme for the Turkish Cypriot community. The project aims at empowering Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and Initiatives across Cyprus to take a more active role in decision making processes by providing advocacy training and advocacy coaching and fostering cross-communal cooperation.

Through its diverse activities, the project endeavors to empower individuals and organizations, strengthen community networks, and promote a sense of belonging and shared responsibility for building a better future in Cyprus.

The Civil Society Initiative Association was established with the aim of strengthening civil society and contributing to the creation of an enabling environment for civil society to fulfill its role in society actively.

Civil Society Initiative was founded in 2019 by group of civil society volunteers and activists who have been actively involved in different thematic areas in northern part of Cyprus for many years. The initiative was registered as an association in 2020. the association set its core values on joint efforts and the value of democratic governance and have been pursuing the cause ever since. The Civil Society Initiative Association aims to strengthen civil society and at the same time contribute to the creation of an enabling environment for civil society to fulfill its role in society actively.

NGO Support Centre is an independent, non-governmental, non-profit organization established in 1999 and dedicated to the development and strengthening of civil society in Cyprus. The organization’s vision is a dynamic, active, and reactive civil society in Cyprus that participates in and advocates for democracy, dialogue and civic engagement.

The NGO Support Centre’s work focuses on empowering civil society organizations (CSOs) and promoting their sustainability by implementing capacity building activities and trainings for local CSOs, raising awareness about the role and impact of civil society, engaging in advocacy to protect civic space, and promoting active citizenship and civic participation.
