how i feel about pjo overall .
i genuinely don’t even know how to explain how much percy jackson means to me like it’s not just a book series it’s literally a whole personality trait at this point. the way it mixes mythology with real life?? insane. like you’re telling me greek gods could just be in new york and there’s a whole camp for demigods hidden from everyone?? i ate that up immediately.
and percy himself is such a perfect main character because he’s not trying to be perfect at all. he’s messy, he’s impulsive, he says the wrong things, he gets in trouble constantly, but he always shows up when it matters. like he will risk everything for the people he loves without even thinking twice and that just hits every time. and the humor?? the sarcasm?? he makes everything feel lighter even when the situation is actually terrifying.
and annabeth?? don’t even get me started. she’s actually everything. smart but not in an annoying way, strong but not in a “trying to prove something every second” way, she just is. the way she plans everything and still has all these emotional layers underneath?? and her relationship with percy is literally one of the best slow burns ever. like it’s not forced, it grows naturally, they challenge each other, they trust each other, it just feels real.
grover is so underrated it actually hurts because he’s always there. like ALWAYS. he’s scared sometimes but he still stays, still protects percy, still cares about everyone and everything, especially nature. he’s the emotional core and people don’t talk about it enough.
clarisse is the definition of “don’t judge too fast” because yeah she starts off super aggressive and intimidating but once you actually understand her?? she’s dealing with so much pressure and expectation and she just expresses it differently. and when she shows up, she SHOWS UP.
nico… i can’t even talk about him normally because his whole storyline just hits differently. the loneliness, the anger, the feeling of not belonging anywhere?? it’s so raw. he’s quiet but so powerful and everything about him feels heavier than the others in a way that just sticks with you.
and rachel is so important because she proves you don’t have to be a demigod to matter. she literally walks into this insane world and just accepts it, adapts, and ends up playing such a huge role. she’s creative, independent, and lowkey one of the bravest characters.
and luke… luke is the one that really makes everything hurt more. because you can see where he’s coming from. you understand why he’s angry, why he feels betrayed, and even when he makes terrible choices you can’t fully hate him. he represents everything that’s wrong with the system and that just makes the story so much deeper.
and overall it’s just the way all these characters fit together. it’s friendship, loyalty, trauma, growth, all mixed with mythology and humor and actual stakes. like it’s fun but it also hurts in the best way. it’s one of those series that you start thinking it’s just gonna be a cool fantasy and then suddenly you’re emotionally attached to everyone and nothing is simple anymore.
i could literally reread it forever and never get tired of it.
rick riordan i love you to death for creating this world
