On a Pixel Fold, if I go to Settings > Sound & vibration > Default notification sound, click on category (Pixel Sounds, Natural Elements, etc) and click on any notification sound, nothing plays. All volume levels are at a decent amount and I have already tried restarting a couple of times.

My pixel buds pro were working great with my pixel 8 for the first 2 or 3 days I had them, but then last night they stopped playing notification sounds. At first I noticed that the Ring doorbell notifications weren't playing, but they worked fine when the buds were disconnected or when my Jabra earbuds were in. Next I noticed that text messages from my wife wouldn't play the sound, but they would when my sister sent a text.

I found a ton of discussion around this issue when I searched google, but most of them were between 2 years and 6 months old. I tried everything I found in them - enabling / disabling notifications, spoken notifications, assistant, hard reset of pixel buds, resetting google play services, all of it.

Now it's slightly better - if I get an email or text at least the earbuds will make that short ding sound and if I hold the earbud to activate the assistant it will read my message to me. If I disable the assistant then notifications still appear and will vibrate but otherwise they are completely silent. As soon as I put the buds away it works normally again.

Since upgrading to the pixel 8 pro my app has stopped playing sounds on notifictaions. If i go into settings it says app provided sound but plays nothing, however if i try and change this to a pixel supplied sound nothing plays. It feels like the permissision to access sounds is missing. Any thoughts?

The Pixel Sounds application comes pre-installed on Pixel phones and is stock-full of ringtones, alarms, and notification sounds for you to choose from. It also works on some non-Pixel phones too, like a few Galaxy S phones, but not on all. That's why we've decided to share with you all the sound files included in it, so you can use them on any device (including your desktop, if you like that).

Download the zip file on your phone, extract it, and head into Settings -> Sounds to choose the ones you want. If your OEM software skin doesn't allow you to pick locally stored sounds, you may need to move the files to the Notifications folder on your phone's storage.

Hey I'm a fan of Google pixel and how much you update the phone and it's software. I just have a small notification type idea that I think would be useful. So I absolutely hate being bombarded with notifications, absolutely more annoying thing on the planet. But turning of notifications or going completely silent keeps me in the dark. What if you made a feature that when you receive one notification, and it make a sound, the phone doesn't make any more notifications sounds but goes silent for ten mins or until the phone is unlocked and locked again. I'd use the shit out of that option. Just an idea

I absolutely share your enthusiasm for Google Pixel and their commitment to regular software updates. It's one of the things that makes the Pixel series stand out.

The concept of a notification "cooldown" period after the first sound is an interesting approach to strike a balance between staying informed and avoiding the annoyance of multiple sounds.

Once you are in the notification area, which a can be done from many areas, simply go through each of the notification options and make sure the option is turned on and the settings are as how you would like.

The primary notification category will be WyzeMessage. you will see up to 4 of them, depending on how many sounds you tried. Basically each one corresponds to one of the notification sounds including the default. I have mine set the following way:

Note: If you tap on the Sound entry, you will be able to select from a list of sounds provided by your Google Device. If you opt to do this, I would only do this on the one which says Default Notification Sound as this will be Android Provided.

I have recently upgraded my phone to a Pixel 5 and once I have a few more weeks under my belt, I will publish a concrete review. One of the things I wanted to take care of right away was how to set up custom Ringtones and Notification sounds on it as, as we documented in a past post, the process is not as easy as one thinks.

I've had a Nest Doorbell camera installed for a few years now. Recently I upgraded my phone to a Pixel 7 Pro. In the last two weeks, I've had no doorbell sound from the doorbell. Neither has my wife, but she's running a Samsung phone. I've been searching for days now and going through everything suggested. I can find absolutely no settings in either the Home app or the Nest app with a label of "Doorbell". This gets real annoying as when the doorbell is pressed, I get a ding as if it were incoming text message, Gmail, soccer score or anything else. The doorbell does put a notification on the phone indicating the doorbell has been pressed, but since I may not hear a generic notification tone, I've been missing people at the door all too often.

While we don't support changing the notification sounds for your Pixel phone, we can point you in the right direction. Our friends at the Google Pixel Community are the perfect folks to help you with it.

Yes, I have done this. The notification setting isn't in the Google Home app, it's in the Settings>Notifications>App Settings area. Once there, find the Google Home (it's under just "Home") and scroll down to "Doorbell press notifications". There you can change the sound and other things like vibration and pop up notifications. I've set mine to "Royal Fanfare", You can also change the notification for just people who come to the door, but don't press the doorbell button - that's "presence sensing notifications". You can make it the same sound or something else.

I will generally say that I have personally seen a lot of Samsung device users have some issues with notifications. However, there is no such option to have a custom ring tone for our Doorbells. It gives you just the default tone and nothing more. Please leave your feedback or feature request on the app.

5. Scroll to the notification sound you want to change. We are all interested in the Doorbell press sound on your phone, so scroll down to "Doorbell press notifications" and tap on the vibrating bell icon on the left.

6. Make sure the slider is slid to the right on "Show Notifications". When you do, it should bring up options for you to change. Tap on the "Sound" choice and make a choice based on the notifications that are present on your phone. Make sure and tap "Save" in the top right corner after you make your decision.

Kudos for the detailed steps. This will be very beneficial for anyone who has this question. On my phone (Pixel 6), I can also set the notification for when the Camera detects someone. That's great for deliveries as they don't usually press the doorbell. It also alerts me when the deer are eating my landscaping shubbery!!!

For about the past month, my phone has made a mystery sound almost every day. Video of it occurring here: It typically happens some time after 9am, and it comes with no notification. As far as I can tell, there's no visual indication of what's happening at all. Does anyone know what this sound is??

Final thought: why would an app do this? Though I have no direct evidence of this yet, I suspect that an external app was giving me a lot of notifications, so I must have long-pressed one of those to silence that app's notifications, but somehow, the sound is still getting through. Perhaps a bug is present in that app.

The main problem is that many apps I use (e.g. BBC News, Whatsapp, Outlook) have their own embedded notification sounds. These have always worked fine on my previous Samsung phones. However, on the S21 all apps have the same default notification sound. There is no way to set it to the app-provided sound. I realise I can go into settings and change this to a different Samsung tone, but I don't really want to learn another 5-10 tones for the app alerts I've become familiar with. It may even be possible to import the tones and re-assign them but frankly I just want them to work and don't need the hassle.

One additional oddity is that on my S20 (where the embedded app sounds have always worked) if I go into the app settings, e.g. for WhatsApp, under 'Sound' it shows "App provided sound". If I then tap on this, the next screen shows "Default notification sound" selected. Going back without changing anything then shows "Default notification sound (Voyager)" under 'Sound' despite having not changed anything. This looks very much like a bug to me.

Have you tried uninstalling these apps and reinstalling them? I had the same thing happen to me with the Snapchat notification. When transferring data from smart switch it somehow deleted the default sound. Hope this can help

I need to be able to turn the volume down at least 50% lower than the lowest setting possible. I have a dog that is sensitive to loud alarm sounds. It is this loud with all ring tone default or downloaded.

This is a default install using the web installer. Didn't modify any of the system files. Didn't install any apps that have anything to do with notifications. The ringtones were loud right out of the gate. e24fc04721
