About

Welcome to Empower - a group created by Pitt women with the goal of helping all women on campus become the best versions of themselves. Empower started informally in the Fall of 2021, and became officially recognized as a Pitt organization in the Spring of 2022. Our first semester on campus has been incredible- we've built up a membership of over 50 women, have an incredible executive board, and planned so many great events already! By the end of this semester, we will have: hosted 3 guest speakers, created vision boards, participated in a meditation session and bumble-sponsored brunch, held a resume workshop, enjoyed a self care night at Divvy's coffee, taken a workout class at Elevate Fitness in the strip, danced in an outdoor Zumba class, and gotten fresh headshots. Empower is 100% free and open to all Pitt women who are looking for a community of supportive, ambitious women who want to see each other succeed. See info below on how to join and stay connected!

OUR STORY

The idea of creating Empower started in March of 2021. Our founding executive board noticed that outside of some exposure in the business school, many Pitt Women don't receive the professional development guidance needed early enough in their undergraduate studies to truly discover where they want to start their careers. We also felt that no club on campus focused on both self and professional development. We wanted to take a holistic approach in providing opportunities for members to improve their mental and physical wellness, in addition to growing professionally. By the Fall of 2021, we were already having Zoom guest speaker events with incredible women, hosted several workshops, and were hard at work preparing to submit all of our registration documents. On a snowy day on November 12, we finally got approval to be recognized as an official Pitt organization! Spring 2022 has been a huge success considering we are a brand new organization. There are over 80 members in our "group me" chat, 65 members on the email list, and over 250 followers on our Instagram account. We've enjoyed meeting a diverse group of women on Pitt's campus who are all looking to become their best self, and can't wait to see where Empower goes next semester.
