I have been a sports shooter for 40 years. Started with a small caliber rifle kneeling, we could not do anything else at the time, and in 1996 started with Historical Weapons. In addition, I started taking tests on all calibers and disciplines of new members who already owned a firearm. I also gave instructions to new members who started with air shooting.
But the biggest challenge I had as a trainer/coach of our youth team on air pistol and rifle. The ages ranged from 11/12 years up to 21 years. During this period, the team had Dutch youth champions in various disciplines. Even one of the pupils participated in Intershoot for a few years, an international air competition, and was always in the finals fighting for first or second place.
Myself shot many competitions on a small caliber rifle 3-positions, prone and fought fiercely with friends on air pistol competitions internally and externally. But most I enjoyed the discipline Historical Weapons where a fellow shooter and I kept an annual competition going for a number of years but also organized a large Cowboy Western Competition at our club for many years which immediately became one of the largest in the Netherlands. But I also visited several Western weekends myself where, of course shooting was done, also actively participated in fast draw competitions.
As a range officer on air weapons, small caliber and historic weapons seen and experienced a lot. From small open matches to district and Dutch championship. But also internationally at Intershoot always walked around with great pleasure and the shooters from all parts of the world may and can help.
