If interested, you are eligible for a free summer math class as a PISCES Scholar. The class will be online, with asynchronous class meetings, but we will have tutor available for all students. Options include
MATH 122: College Algebra
MATH 150: Precalculus
You will automatically be scheduled to take the correct mathematics and science classes for your major, in the same section as your PISCES Scholars friends. You'll know someone on the first day!
Academic Coaching: Your academic coach will meet with you at least one time, about 3 weeks in, to see how the plan you made in the summer is working. More appointments can be scheduled as needed.
INTD 150: Design you BSU: A free, one-credit course taken with just your PISCES Scholars friends where you learn about opportunities and how to navigate College as a science or math student.
PISCES Scholars earn $450 cash each semester if they participate in research, attend or lead STEM or social justice club meetings, participate in K-12 outreach and education, or other activities.
Connect with mentors.
You will meet regularly with a BSU faculty mentor and an Academic Coach to make sure you get off on the right foot. PISCES partners with the National Society of Black Engineers, Boston Chapter, to provide opportunities to learn about STEM careers and meet outside professional mentors.
Engage in research.
In MATH 199: Math for Social Dynamics in the spring semester, you will take a first year seminar built around a research project shared by all PISCES Scholars. This course will teach you how to do research, giving you the confidence to do research on your own the next year.
