Pip's Island - Privacy Policy
Effective date: 26 September 2026
Pip's Island: Calm Maths is a calm maths app for children aged 5 to 9, published by A I K A T E K LTD ("we", "us", "our"). Your child's details stay on your device. The app sends only anonymous usage statistics, which a grown-up can switch off.
The short version
Your child's name, age and progress live only on your iPhone or iPad and are never sent to us or to anyone else. There is no account and no login. The app sends anonymous usage statistics to Amplitude, an analytics service, so that we can see which parts of the app children enjoy and where it can improve. They never include your child's name or age, your location or any advertising identifier, and you can switch them off in the Grown-ups area. We do not use advertising or tracking, and we never sell data. Purchases go through Apple's App Store, and we never see payment details. To delete everything the app has stored on your device, delete the app.
Who the app is for
Pip's Island is designed for children aged 5 to 9 and is listed in the App Store's Kids category. A grown-up sets it up and looks after the settings. Children do not create accounts, enter contact details, talk to anyone through the app, or see adverts. Anything that leads outside the app (this policy, support, Apple's subscription settings and the purchase screens) sits in the Grown-ups area behind a parental gate.
We built the app with the UK's rules for children's services in mind: UK GDPR and the Information Commissioner's Age Appropriate Design Code (the "Children's code"). Those rules ask services to collect as little as possible from children and to put the child's best interests first. We keep everything about your child on the device, and the only information that leaves it is the anonymous usage statistics described below, which a grown-up can switch off at any time.
Usage statistics (analytics)
The app sends anonymous usage statistics to Amplitude, Inc., an analytics company based in the United States, which processes them on our behalf. We use them only to understand how Pip's Island is used and to make it better: for example, how many families finish setting up, which activities children choose, how sessions end, and how the Grown-ups area is used.
What is sent: a random identifier, made up by the app when it is first installed (it is not your name or your child's, it is not linked to your Apple Account, and it is not any of the identifiers Apple gives your device; deleting the app deletes it, and installing again creates a new one); simple events describing what happens in the app, such as setup finished (including which of the "Would any of these help?" preferences were ticked), a session started, an activity was chosen (which maths topic), a round was finished (how many questions were right first time, and how long it took), a session ended, Pip grew or a treasure was found, the Pip Premium screen was opened, and a setting was changed (which one); the working level (for example "Year 2"), the number of children set up on the device (never their names) and the calm and accessibility settings in use; and the app version, the iOS version, whether the device is an iPhone or an iPad, and the device's language setting.
What is never sent: your child's name or age, or anything your child types; your name, email address, Apple Account or payment details; your IP address, your location of any kind (not even the country) or your mobile network; advertising identifiers, Apple's vendor identifier or the device model.
We rely on our legitimate interest in understanding and improving the app. We collect only what that needs, and you can switch the statistics off at any time. We do not use them for advertising, we do not sell them, and we do not combine them with other information to identify you or your child. Amplitude processes them under a data processing agreement that includes the safeguards UK law requires for data held outside the UK. We keep them only as long as they are useful for improving the app.
Switching it off: in the Grown-ups area, behind the parental gate, turn off "Share anonymous usage data". From then on the app sends nothing more. You can switch it back on at any time.
The app carries a privacy manifest, which Apple reads when we submit it. The manifest and our App Store privacy label both declare these statistics and the random identifier, used only for analytics and not for tracking.
Data stored on your device
The app keeps a small amount of information so that it can work. All of it is stored only on the device it was entered on, in the app's own private storage provided by Apple, and it is never uploaded.
Entered by a grown-up: the child's first name (or a nickname), the child's age, and the working level ("Working at: Year N").
Created as the child plays: progress (sessions played, questions answered, minutes, days played, what was practised and how each maths strand is going), Pip's growth and the island's treasures.
Settings: calm and accessibility choices, the daily reminder time if you turn a reminder on, whether usage statistics are switched on, and whether Pip Premium is active, as reported by the App Store on your device.
We cannot see any of this. We have no way to look it up, change it or recover it for you, because it never leaves the device.
Purchases
Pip Premium is bought through Apple's App Store using Apple's own purchasing system. Apple handles the payment, the free trial, renewals, refunds and Family Sharing. We never receive your name, address, payment card or Apple Account details. The app only learns from the App Store on your device whether Pip Premium is currently active. Apple's handling of your purchase is covered by Apple's privacy policy at apple.com/legal/privacy. You can review or cancel a subscription at any time in Settings, Apple Account, Subscriptions.
Reminders
You can turn on one optional daily reminder in the Grown-ups area. This is a local notification, scheduled and shown by your own device; no notification service or server is involved. The app asks for permission to show notifications only at the moment you switch the reminder on. You can turn it off in the app or in your device's Settings.
Pip reads aloud
Pip reads every question and prompt aloud using the speech synthesis built into your iPhone or iPad. The speech is generated on the device and nothing is sent anywhere. The app does not use the microphone and nothing is recorded.
The Growth Report PDF
In the Grown-ups area, a grown-up can save a child's Growth Report as a PDF. Apart from the usage statistics described above, this is the only way information leaves the app, and it happens only when you choose it: you tap "Save as PDF", your device's share sheet opens, and you pick where the PDF goes. The PDF contains the child's first name and the report. The app keeps no record of where it went, and nothing comes to us.
Children
Your child's name, age and progress never leave your device, so we hold none of it that we could give you a copy of, correct, move or delete; everything is already in your hands. The usage statistics are not linked to your name, your child's name or your Apple Account, so we cannot pick out the ones that came from your device; switching them off in the Grown-ups area stops any more being sent. Under UK data protection law you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) about any organisation's handling of personal information. If you have a question or concern about Pip's Island, please write to us first and we will do our best to help.
Deleting the information
To delete everything Pip's Island has stored, delete the app from the device. This removes the child's name, age, level, progress, Pip, all settings and the random identifier used for usage statistics. If you use Apple's device backups, the app's data may be included in those backups along with the data of your other apps; backups are made under your control by Apple or your computer, not by us. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription: to cancel, use Settings, Apple Account, Subscriptions.
Security
The app's data is protected by the security of your own device: your passcode, Face ID or Touch ID, and Apple's built-in encryption of the device's storage. There is no account and no server of ours, so there is nothing to log in to. The only information held outside your device is the usage statistics, which are sent over an encrypted connection and contain nothing that identifies you or your child.
Changes
If the app ever changes in a way that affects privacy, the updated policy will be posted on this page, with a new date at the top, before the change takes effect. Version 1.0.3 added the usage statistics described above; before that, the app collected nothing.
