Neat piece of history- Carroll "Lewis" recurve.
Side by side with a Wing Presentation riser the riser is same length, and the limb curves look nearly the same. Folks on various forums say this riser will take Wing Presentation II limbs, and it is VERY close, but they seem to have a very slight difference in the curvature that leads to gaps of about 1/32" when I place my Wing Preso limbs on the riser. I suspect a set of cork pads would take up this variance if you have a bunch of Wing limbs. I did not try it. I have owned two sets of Carroll limbs, and trimmed down one set lightly to get to a lower weight which I do shoot on my Wing Preso II risers, but they dont quite fit perfectly there either without cork padding. These limbs are stock, as original.
This bow has limbs marked 68", but I feel they are a bit longer than that, like 68 1/2" to 69". I strung them up with a string I use on my Wing and they seemed longer by ~1/2" to 1" than my string liked, so I took them off and laid out my 68" limbs side by side and sure enough they are just a bit longer.
Pics tell the story- Copper colored riser with some minor paint flaking off, a bit of tape marks where arrow rest was, otherwise fine. Grip is really nice feeling, as folks on forums say of the Carroll bows. I set the limbs up to check for twist, they are straight to my eyes. I slowly pulled limbs up 1/4 then again to 1/2 then to 3/4, then to full draw as I do on new to me bows and they feel solid- no creaking or noises, smooth, etc. I cannot shoot them as they are too strong for me with my bad shoulders, I shoot 25# max, which is closer to 29# at my 32" draw. Riser will come with the ball weight. Some pics might show an old berger button plunger, I am keeping that.
Backstory to this bow: Part of a collection from a recently deceased archer, his wife took to local archery store and asked if they wanted the collection and they declined. Next question was "Do you know anyone who shoots these type of bows" and I am apparently known enough as a Wing guy to get them. Some of the limbs in one of the pics, I ended up with 5 sets of Wing limbs and a phenolic riser- keep an eye out for them to list up later.
For a nice Wing Preso II I figure limbs worth ~$150, Riser in nice shape is $200-$300 typically. This is harder to judge, just an odd bow. Asking $350 TYD including postage, etc. with Paypal. You get one set of limbs, one riser, the ball weight pictured, no berger button. No string, but if you want one I can twist up a flemish style string in B-55 for you for another $40, I will burn off the bitter ends of the string if you want- I just leave mine on, figure "cant hurt." None of the shoes, toes, other limbs, or misc. other stuff in some pics is included :)
