The head coach of the Pionniers jiu-jitsu in Balmoral is Gabriel Landry.
Gabriel began practicing judo in 2011 at the Club de Judo de la Vieille Capitale in Québec City. Three years later, in 2014, he earned his black belt at the Campbellton Judo Club, which gave him a strong foundation in martial arts.
In 2013, he discovered Jiu-Jitsu under Shane Rice at Victory Jiu-Jitsu in Moncton. He trained there for a year and, ever since, has continued learning from Shane through private lessons and seminars. To this day, in 2025, Shane Rice remains his main coach.
Fun fact: Shane Rice is the only Canadian to have received his black belt directly from Rickson Gracie, which means Gabriel’s style is deeply rooted in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu—a martial art focused on realistic self-defense while also embracing the sporting side.
Since returning to the region in 2014, Gabriel has continued training in various clubs until founding his own in 2020. Since then, he has had the privilege of teaching Jiu-Jitsu to both kids and adults in a friendly, family-oriented environment.
Today, Gabriel holds a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and a black belt in judo.
With over 14 years of experience, he teaches through an approach true to the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu philosophy: effective, realistic, and accessible to everyone.
