Master Teacher Candidates launched their summer professional learning by establishing the collaborative culture that will guide their work throughout the Driving Possibilities initiative. Participants developed shared norms, explored the characteristics of effective instruction, and reflected on Bryan Goodwin's Student Learning That Works to deepen their understanding of how students learn best.
Math and science breakout sessions provided opportunities to discuss instructional successes and challenges, strengthen professional relationships, and begin preparing for the leadership role each participant will play in supporting colleagues and improving STEM teaching and learning within their schools.

Elementary, middle, and high school principals, assistant principals, academic deans, and members of the Fayette County Public Schools Teaching and Learning Team met to strengthen leadership for the Driving Possibilities initiative. Together, they explored research on learning, discussed The Math Pact, and considered how school leaders create the conditions for high-quality STEM instruction.

Experiencing high-quality instruction is the first step toward creating it for students.
The Fayette County Public Schools Teaching and Learning Team explored the vision behind OpenSciEd and how phenomenon-based instruction supports the district's Portrait of a Graduate. Participants experienced an OpenSciEd lesson from the learner's perspective while examining how students develop understanding through questioning, investigation, and sensemaking.
The session also highlighted the power of high-quality instructional materials through a classroom perspective shared by Bryan Station High School teacher and Master Teacher Fellow Jordan Hampton, who reflected on his first year implementing OpenSciEd and the impact of storyline instruction on student learning.

Master Teacher Candidates gathered for an after-school kickoff reception to begin their journey as instructional leaders in the Driving Possibilities initiative. Joined by members of the Fayette County Public Schools Teaching and Learning Team, participants connected with one another, learned about the vision and goals of the project, and explored the opportunities that lie ahead.
Teachers discussed their roles and responsibilities, reflected on how students learn, asked questions about the five-year initiative, and began building the collaborative professional learning community that will support leadership across their schools.

Principals from all six Driving Possibilities schools gathered for the initiative's first leadership meeting, joined by members of the Fayette County Public Schools Teaching and Learning Team. Together, they explored the goals of Driving Possibilities, reflected on the characteristics of highly effective math and science classrooms, and considered how school leaders create the conditions for high-quality instruction to flourish.
Through collaborative discussions, classroom video analysis, and reflection on a leadership podcast, participants began to develop a common vision for effective teaching and learning while generating questions to guide future professional learning and the work of each school's Driving Possibilities Leadership Team.
